Lie #6: Porn Helps Our Marriage
On any given day, 25% of all internet searches are sexual in nature. We believe pornography and addiction to pornography is pandemic in nature today. The assault and destruction on homes, marriages, and families from porn is almost incalculable. It impacts both men and women. Here’s how…
1. It changes how you view your spouse
Bringing pornography into your marriage distorts your attitudes toward the beauty of the sexual relationship. What you’ve watched on the screen becomes projected onto your spouse for them to “perform” like that. When they don’t, or when they fall short of what you’ve viewed, the door becomes open for criticism and contempt. No spouse should be compared in the intimacy of the God-created sexual experience with rehearsed sexual actors who do multiple takes of scenes, pretending fulfillment while never coughing, sneezing, having a kid at the door, phone buzzing or any number of other things that could interfere!
2. It increases your risk of adultery
In an article by Jason Johnson he writes, “According to the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families, 47 percent of families in the United States reported that pornography is a problem in their home. The same study shows that the consistent viewing of sexually explicit material increases the marital infidelity rate by more than 300 percent. While 40 percent of “sex addicts” lose their spouses, 58 percent suffer considerable financial losses and one-third lose their jobs.” For help in finding freedom from an addiction to porn, you can read our post on the topic here.
The risk to the two of you and your marital health and stability is enormous when you bring porn into your home. Why would you even open your door to that kind of potential destruction?
3. It opens your home to Satan’s activity
Furthermore, you are opening your home to a foothold of the Enemy. There is nothing God-honoring in pornography and behind it is an active work of the Enemy to ensnare and enslave. You remove the protective care of God on your home and your family. Why would you even open your door to that kind of potential destruction?
4. It invites God’s judgment
Hebrews 13:4 says: “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” The word “immoral” is from the Greek word pornos. Sound familiar? Bringing porn into the bedroom is introducing another person(s) to your bedroom. The intimacy created by God for your marriage is broken. You’ve opened yourselves up to God’s judgment as a result. Why would you even open your door to that kind of potential destruction?
